GRAHAM

Sarah GRAHAM married Joseph LAURIE in 1899.  She was his second wife (see LAURIE page).


Sarah already had an illegitimate child called Mary HILL.  She was last documented on the 1891 census, living with her grandparents, but no trace of her exists after that date.




Mary Hill is living with her grand parents at 29 Corrsgil Square, Dreghorn, Ayrshire.





The parents of Sarah GRAHAM who married Joseph LAURIE were Henry GRAHAM and Jane McBRIDE. They married in 1873 at Collier Street, Johnstone. Henry's parents were Henry GRAHAM (agricultural labourer deceased) and Jane FLEMING (not deceased). Jane McBRIDE's parents were William McBRIDE coal miner and Sarah CLYDE (dec). 



Henry GRAHAM and Jane McBRIDE had the following children:

Jane McBRIDE died 23rd January 1949 aged 93 years, 119 Main Street, Dreghorn Her parents were William McBRIDE (coal miner deceased) and Sarah CLYDE (dec). She died from arterio sclerosis (senile) cerebral thrombosis. Present - Henry GRAHAM, son, of 1 Chapel Lane, Galston.

Some extracts from the poor relief records (Dreghorn Poor Relief Records 1897) Henry GRAHAM Record No. 347. Applied on 18 Mar 1879 at 3 pm. Residence - No. 2 Six Rows; born in Paisley, Scotland; married aged 27; occupation - coalminer; religion - Protestant; wholly disabled. Dependants: wife - Jane McBride 24, William G. 4 yr 7mth, Sarah G. 1 yr 11 mth. The only settlement which is open to him appears to be his birth - Paisley. First application. 18 Mar - relieved - approved. Henry GRAHAM Record No. 360. Applied on 31 May 1879 at 7 pm. Residence – 35 Six Rows; born in Johnston, Scotland; married aged 25; occupation – coalminer; religion – Protestant; wholly disabled. Dependants: wife – Jane McBride aged 24, William Graham 4yr 7mth, Sarah Graham 2yr 2mth. There appears to be no settlement by residence. Second application – see No. 347. 31 May – relieved – approved.
